Standards

We're in the standards that apply today and in the ones being written.

Certified to the standard in force and seated where the next one is drafted. Taking part in the standard isn't a badge: it's the guarantee that your fleet complies today and will keep complying.

EN 17860

The standard that separates a professional vehicle from a toy.

What it is

Seven parts, from terminology to testing

The full series defines what a professional cargobike has to withstand: tests, requirements and criteria that rule out much of the consumer market.

Where we stand

Certified, with headroom

We test every vehicle with 40% more load and intensity than the standard requires. When you help write the exam, you don't scrape a pass.

Since when

The full series, published and in force

The standard that affects your fleet is there to be read. Or you can let us read it for you.

Why it matters to you

Your next purchase, with a filter

A tender that requires EN 17860 filters the market in a single line. The operators and public bodies that know it are already asking for it.

The tool

Would your current fleet pass the standard?

EN 17860 self-assessment checklist: run it over the vehicles you already have, whatever the brand, and you'll know where you stand before a tender asks you.

No spam: the checklist and, if you want it, the monthly newsletter. Controller: MOTHIUM, S.L. Privacy policy in the footer.

The map of what's coming

Autonomous driving and digital products: the rules are already written.

Four frameworks decide where a professional vehicle with software will be allowed to operate. We follow all of them. And we take part in the ones still being written.

Controlled environments · our route

Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 · 20 January 2027

Autonomous mobile machinery now has its regulation: human supervision with remote stop, cybersecurity treated as machine safety, tamper-proof logging. This is the natural ground for missions in controlled environments, and we sit on the committees developing it.

Public roads · EU

Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1426

European type-approval for fully automated driving has existed since 2022, for bounded cases: a predefined area, a fixed route, car parks. Autonomy is regulated the way we understand it: mission by mission, not in general.

Public roads · Spain

DGT · ES-AV programme and reform under way

Since 2025 Spain has had a framework for testing automated vehicles on open roads, with a single point of entry and public reporting. In 2026 the consultation began to bring fully automated vehicles into road-safety law. A good country to pilot in.

The digital product

Cyber Resilience Act (EU) 2024/2847

Every product with digital elements (a connected vehicle is one) will have to be designed to be cyber-secure: exploited-vulnerability reporting within 24/72 h from September 2026, and full CE marking in December 2027. Cybersecurity stops being an option and becomes a market requirement. We're already building it into Synapse, years before it's enforceable.

The committees

What it means to sit on CEN/TC 333.

Seeing the drafts before they become standards. Shaping how a test is defined. Knowing what's coming, years ahead. That's what you get, without paying for it, when you choose a manufacturer that's inside the room.
