Discover how Mothium’s CargoBike performs under real winter conditions in Munich. Field-tested for durability, reliability, and zero-emission logistics.
Operating a CargoBike in optimal conditions is one thing. But what happens when the temperature drops below zero, roads are covered in ice treatments, and logistics still need to keep moving? That’s exactly what we set out to test in Munich this past winter.
At Mothium, we believe that durability isn’t something you claim — it’s something you prove. That’s why we conducted extensive real-world testing with one of our professional clients in Munich, exposing our CargoBike to the coldest months of the year in a demanding urban delivery environment.
Winter conditions are a true test of performance for any electric vehicle — and CargoBikes are no exception. Some of the key challenges that arise during cold-weather operations include:
These are exactly the scenarios our vehicles are built to endure.
During our extensive winter trials in Munich, temperatures frequently dropped below freezing. Here's what we validated:
Thanks to the optimization of battery capacity and energy management, our CargoBike maintained reliable performance despite freezing temperatures. Like all electric vehicles, range is affected by the cold — but Mothium's parallel-discharge swappable battery system is designed to minimize that impact. By distributing load efficiently across multiple batteries, we reduced voltage drop and preserved usable energy, enabling consistent autonomy even during full-day delivery cycles in winter conditions
Unlike many CargoBikes that rely on standard bicycle tires, Mothium is equipped with automotive-grade winter tires, custom-developed to meet our operational requirements. Designed for enhanced traction, durability, and puncture resistance, these tires delivered outstanding grip on wet, treated, and icy roads. Their robust construction significantly reduces the risk of flats caused by salt, grit, or sharp debris commonly found during winter months.
From sealed components to protected cabling and strong fenders, every part of our CargoBike is engineered to handle urban winter environments — keeping riders and cargo safe and secure.
Below are some photos taken during our testing days in Munich. While we cannot disclose the client name, you’ll get a clear view of the urban delivery context where our CargoBike operated successfully — in snow, slush, and freezing winds.
Winter isn’t just a season — it’s a proving ground. And Mothium’s CargoBike is ready for it.
If you're considering integrating electric CargoBikes into your fleet and wondering how they perform in harsh climates, we'd love to talk.
